Job Description
Organisation: Leicestershire County Council
Work Location: County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire, LE3 8RA
Salary: Soulbury Scale, Points 2-4 (£40,035– £43,115) per annum (pro-rata for part-time)
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract Type: Fixed term for 2 years

About The Role
Leicestershire Educational Psychology Service (LEPS) provides great opportunities for diverse, meaningful and innovative EP work within a supportive environment. Our goal is to provide access to high-quality psychological practice to a range of partners, to improve the lives of children and families within our local communities. Our service is growing as we begin to respond to the expectations of the SEND Reforms, and we are now actively seeking Assistant EPs to join and contribute to the service as we deliver this work.
Our Offer Currently Includes
- Work with individual schools including specialist provisions
- Training to support inclusive practice and interventions in schools
- Whole School Approach project work in partnership with Public Health
- Support to the Local Authority including our Critical Incident Response Team
- Partnership working with other services
As An Assistant Educational Psychologist In LEPS You Will
- Assist with development, planning and delivery of Educational Psychology services in Leicestershire for the benefit of children and their families.
- Plan and deliver training and project work, including developing training materials, evaluation measures, data analysis, and report preparation.
- Undertake supervised delivery of Educational Psychology services in schools, in partnership with a fully qualified Educational Psychologist.
- Prepare written feedback and information related to children and young people (always under appropriate supervision from a Qualified EP).
- Work in partnership with schools, settings and other agencies to support inclusive mainstream practice and a sense of belonging.
- Actively engage in training, CPD and professional supervision.
- Follow and apply the key legislative requirements and Code of Practice that are relevant to Educational Psychology, including those relating to SEND and Safeguarding.
- Support the achievement of the Children and Family Service Directorate’s goals and ambitions.
- Actively participate in team activities including team meetings, project groups and task and finish groups.
- Ensure the highest standards of service delivery and customer care are met at all times.
- Protect and manage information securely, reporting breaches or suspected information security breaches, in line with Council policies.

As this role involves travelling to locations across the county, you will need access to a vehicle and hold a full driving licence

About You
To apply for this post, you must:
- An honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) conferring Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society.
- Considerable relevant experience of working with children and young people, parents, and other professionals. Ideally this experience will have included working with children and young people with additional educational needs.
- Understanding of the role of the Educational Psychologist within a Local Authority context, including how psychological theory and practice can be applied to improve outcomes for children and young people.
- The ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders in a range of forms.
- The ability to work independently across a range of contexts including the delivery of training, following initial direction.
- Previous experience of delivering projects and training would be an advantage.
- An understanding of supporting children and young people with SEND within Local Authority and educational settings, together with knowledge of education, SEND and safeguarding legislation, would be desirable.
As a Leicestershire Assistant EP, you will have access to:
- Induction and training for the role
- Ongoing support and regular professional supervision from a senior EP
- Well-appointed central office base and facilities within County Hall, Glenfield
- Local ‘touchdown’ bases across the county to reduce travel time when out on visits
- Up-to-date ICT equipment to support you to undertake your role
