Major UK Passenger Transport Operator – Confidential Appointment

Please only apply if you have a minimum of two years’ engineering supervisory or workshop management experience within the PSV, HGV, bus, coach or large commercial vehicle sector.

Salary: £70,000 per annum

Permanent position

Any five days out of seven on a shift basis

An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Deputy Engineering Manager to join the engineering management team of a large and well-established passenger transport operator.

Based within a busy East London engineering operation, you will support the Engineering Manager with the day-to-day running of the workshop and engineering team.

You will help ensure that a modern and varied fleet of passenger vehicles is maintained to the required legal, regulatory and company standards.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Supporting the day-to-day management of the engineering workshop
  • Ensuring vehicles are maintained to all legal, regulatory and company standards
  • Maximising vehicle availability, reliability and workshop productivity
  • Leading, motivating and supporting workshop employees
  • Managing employee performance, attendance, fatigue and wellbeing
  • Ensuring scheduled maintenance, inspections and repairs are completed correctly and on time
  • Monitoring engineering quality, compliance records and workshop standards
  • Promoting a positive Health and Safety culture
  • Planning and prioritising workloads to meet operational requirements
  • Deputising for the Engineering Manager when required

Desired Skills And Experience

You should have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering and maintenance procedures relating to buses, coaches, HGVs or other large commercial vehicles.

Previous PSV experience would be highly advantageous, although candidates from a closely related heavy vehicle environment will also be considered.

To Be Considered, You Should Have

  • City and Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent heavy vehicle qualification
  • Engineering supervisory, workshop management or engineering management experience
  • Experience working with PSV, HGV, bus, coach or large commercial vehicles
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures and engineering compliance
  • An up-to-date understanding of Health and Safety legislation
  • Strong leadership, planning and decision-making skills
  • A full UK driving licence
  • The ability and willingness to obtain a Transport Manager CPC if required

Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, bodywork construction, stores procedures and electric or alternative-fuel vehicles would also be beneficial.
