We are recruiting for a full time Assistant Environmental Protection Officer on a permanent basis
This is a hybrid post, with on-site days based within SEPA’s Eurocentral Office in Motherwell

Work that goes beyond your desk
Experts at what we do, we work in a professional way towards our shared goals, knowing the work we do makes a genuine, lasting difference on the environment. As Assistant Environment Protection Officer, that involves:
- Provides support for the regulatory activities of significant environmental crime (unlicenced activities) including dealing with Serious Organised Criminality in the waste sector
- The role will work closely with and assist a dedicated team of officers who carry out what can be complex investigations into deliberate environmental criminality. This may include gathering evidence to assist with the issue of a Variable Monetary Penalty or the submission of a report to COPFS
- The role is expected to visit sites alongside colleagues to gather evidence in the form of statements, site records or other forms of evidence and assist team members in the processing and reporting of environmental crime related data
- Routine compliance assessment work and low level complaint response and enforcement work

Respect for your expertise
This is a highly important role within our Regulation, Business & Environment portfolio, which means you’ll need:
- An HND qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience working in a regulatory and/or enforcement roles, with the ability to effectively triage and prioritise work within a fast-paced team environment, escalating risks and issues where necessary
- Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders, preferably experience in communicating with business owners and/or members of the public
- Experience in producing written reports and documentation
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
