Role Overview
You will be working in the Technology and Sustainability OU on our Lower Thames Crossing project, based in Thurrock, where we harness digital transformation and innovation to meet ambitious climate goals and deliver sustainable solutions for our customers.
The Lower Thames crossing is the UK’s most significant road infrastructure project in a generation. Skanska is the delivery partner for the ‘Kent Roads’ portion of the project, which connects the southern part of the A2/M2 route to the tunnel approach. It includes the construction of Europe’s widest green bridge, 6km of new road and structures a new public park and 12 miles of new and improved pathways for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
To support this landmark project Skanska is assembling an Environmental Sustainability team and is seeking an Assistant Environmental Sustainability Manager. This role will support the Environmental Sustainability Manager in achieving the project’s environmental objectives and ambitions.

Responsibilities
As The Assistant Environmental Manager, You Will
- Communicate Development Consent Order (DCO) environmental requirements to teams and perform compliance inspections.
- Work with the statutory environmental bodies / consultees.
- Provide environmental training to staff.
- Produce environmental management plans required for the project and ensure they are reviewed and approved by the client, relevant stakeholders and the Secretary of State.
- Develop, maintain, implement and coordinate the review of all Environmental Management System (EMS) documentation at project/contract level.
- Identify key environmental risk, opportunities and KPIs.
- Provide advice and guidance on legal consents, licences and exemptions, while identifying sustainability innovations, cost-saving opportunities and best-practice initiatives.

Requirements
We Are Looking For
- Degree level in appropriate Environmental or relevant discipline or equivalent (e.g. NVQ).
- Experience of the Development Consent Order process.
- Analytical skills with attention to detail to identify environmental risks and mitigation measures.
- Extensive construction industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector.
- Minimum Practitioner Membership with IEMA or similar professional membership.
