Are you an Assistant Estimator ready to step up, or an experienced Estimator looking for a fresh challenge within the residential groundworks sector?

We are working with a well-established and highly regarded groundworks contractor based in Southampton, delivering infrastructure and groundworks packages for leading national and regional housebuilders across the South Coast.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of repeat business, they are looking to appoint an Assistant Estimator or Estimator to join their commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a financially secure contractor with a strong reputation for quality delivery, long-standing client relationships, and consistent repeat business.

The Company

Our client specialises in residential groundworks and infrastructure, working closely with major developers and housebuilders on new-build housing schemes.

Typical packages include:

  • Bulk earthworks and site preparation
  • Foundations and substructure works
  • Roads and sewers
  • Drainage and attenuation systems
  • Plot works and service installations
  • External works and finishing works

Assistant Estimator / Estimator Role Overview

Reporting into the Head of Estimating, you will play a key role in pricing and securing profitable new projects.

Assistant Estimator / Estimator Responsibilities

  • Reviewing tender enquiries, drawings and specifications
  • Completing take-offs and preparing detailed cost plans
  • Pricing labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages
  • Obtaining and assessing supplier/subcontractor quotations
  • Producing accurate tender submissions
  • Identifying risk, opportunity and value engineering options
  • Supporting project handover to operational and commercial teams
  • Maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships

Assistant Estimator / Estimator Candidate Criteria

We are keen to speak with candidates at either Assistant Estimator or Estimator level.

You should ideally have:

  • Experience within residential groundworks (essential)
  • Exposure to pricing groundworks or infrastructure packages
  • Strong commercial awareness and numerical ability
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong Excel skills and attention to detail

Candidates from roles such as Assistant Estimator, Estimator, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor or Junior Commercial professionals within the groundworks sector are encouraged to apply.
