This is a farm-based role in a busy, hands-on environment. Our farms are modern, and hygiene and biosecurity are of utmost importance.

Hours of Work

Average of 5 days out of 7 across 14 days (for first 5 weeks of chick placement 12 days on 2 days off)

What will you be doing?

The Assistant Farm Manager will work closely with the farm management team, managing on a day to day basis a company rearing farm. The main responsibility of Assistant Farm Manager is for the wellbeing and performance of the livestock, although this will by definition, extend to the up keep and appearance of the site as a whole.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain optimum environmental conditions to ensure bird welfare and biosecurity practises are maintained.
  • Complete grading and vaccinating of the birds.
  • Ensure site maintenance and general Avara Foods standards are met and completed.
  • Supervise staff and third parties whilst on site, ensuring adherence to Health and Safety procedures.
  • Comply with legislative and assurance scheme standards.
  • Maintain accurate records as stipulated by Avara Foods & UK legislation (goods and services received, generator, alarm logs, crop records, medication register, accident book etc.).
  • Operate financial control systems in support of effective best cost management.
  • Ensure that high standards of animal welfare, hygiene and husbandry practice are maintained.
  • Working on other farm sites, as and when needed.
  • Covering in the Farm manager’s absence
  • Reporting to the Farm Manager

What we’re looking for:

  • Own transport is essential - travel between multiple sites is essential
  • Previous livestock experience (poultry preferred but not essential)
  • NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in Poultry Production or Agriculture (desirable - full training provided)
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • A willingness to learn and self-motivation
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and complete manual tasks
  • Basic IT skills
