Assistant Finance Analyst
Location: Birmingham City Centre
Salary: £32,000-£35,000
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
The Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded Assistant Finance Analyst to join a well-established national retail business. This role offers excellent exposure across finance and operational teams, providing meaningful insight into business performance and supporting decision-making across a large multi-site estate. This position is ideal for an experienced or part-qualified finance professional to develop their career within a fast-paced commercial environment. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, analysing financial performance, delivering valuable reporting, and contributing to forecasting and budgeting activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce regular performance reports and financial insights for operational stakeholders.
- Analyse sales trends, business performance metrics, and expenditure to identify opportunities and risks.
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist in the forecasting and budgeting process, ensuring financial information is accurate and up to date.
- Investigate variances and provide clear explanations to management teams.
- Monitor operational and property-related expenditure, helping budget holders understand financial performance.
- Prepare reporting packs and presentations for senior stakeholders.
- Support financial planning activities for a large portfolio of locations across the UK.
- Respond to ad hoc requests for analysis and business performance data.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in reporting processes, controls, and financial insight.

Skills & Requirements:
- Progress towards a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or have relevant finance experience.
- Previous experience within a finance, analyst, management accounts, or commercial reporting role.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
- The ability to communicate confidently with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills, including data manipulation and reporting.
- A proactive and organised approach to managing workloads and deadlines.
- Experience using ERP or finance systems would be advantageous.
