Role: Assistant Finance Manager

Salary: £38,000 - £48,000 DOE
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire

The Accountancy & Finance Division at The ONE is currently recruiting for an Assistant Finance Manager on behalf of an established business based in Corby. A great opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Accountant or Management Accountant who is ready to broaden their experience and take the next step in their career. Working closely with the Finance Director in a growing SME, you’ll gain hands-on exposure across management accounts, cashflow, budgeting, forecasting and commercial analysis, with a clear opportunity to develop towards a Finance Manager position over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and month-end reporting.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Assist with cashflow reporting and the ongoing development of cashflow forecasts.
  • Support annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting activities.
  • Prepare VAT information and assist with VAT returns.
  • Support payroll processes and related finance administration.
  • Produce regular financial reports and KPI information.
  • Carry out variance analysis, investigating differences and providing supporting commentary.
  • Support stock and working capital reporting, working closely with Supply Chain and Operations.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure agreed financial controls are followed.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting information for year-end and external audit requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting, and efficiency.
  • Gradually take greater ownership of management accounts, forecasting, controls, and commercial analysis as your experience develops.
  • Work with operational teams to improve stock management, working capital, and profitability.
  • Support the Finance Director with commercial and strategic financial planning.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant, Management Accounts Assistant, or in a similar finance role.
  • Experience supporting month-end processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Some exposure to management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and/or cashflow reporting.
  • Good Excel skills and experience using accounting software.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
  • AAT qualified or studying, ACCA/CIMA part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence investigating variances and questioning information where appropriate.
  • Proactive and comfortable taking greater ownership as your experience develops.
  • Confident communicating with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Commercially curious with an interest in understanding how the wider business operates.
  • Comfortable working within a growing SME environment.
  • Genuine ambition to progress into a more senior finance position
