Assistant Finance Manager - Jockey Club Experiences, Rubery, Birmingham (Hybrid) | Full-Time / Permanent
£50000 + excellent benefits including healthcare, wellbeing support, 23 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, life assurance, meals on duty, and more.
Overall Purpose of the Role
In March 2026, Compass signed the £100m ground-breaking Jockey Club Experiences contract which builds on the current catering contract. This now includes not just food and beverage, but also hospitality sales (via Keith Prowse) and non-raceday sales (via Lime Venue Portfolio). The business has nearly doubled in turnover and there is a need to develop appropriate financial controls, systems and reporting to ensure client and operation needs are maximised.
As Assistant Finance Manager, you will support the Head of Finance and Senior Finance Manager and wider operational teams across the new Jockey Club Experiences contract. You will play an important role in developing financial reports, creating and enforcing financial controls, and supporting commercial decision making.
Key Accountabilities
PURPOSE: Commercial Support
- Creation and continued improvement of reporting and communication of monthly results
- Support effective business partnering with operational teams, ensuring strong financial governance and informed decision making
- Reconciliation and action on any balance sheet alignments
- Support proactive financial analysis and provide insights to highlight trends, anomalies, and performance drivers
- Support continuous improvement in financial controls, reporting processes, and data integrity
PERFORMANCE
- Support the month-end close process, ensuring accurate recognition of sales, costs, accruals, and prepayments
- Key elements of management reporting, including Monthly Business Reviews and performance dashboards
- Monitor financial performance against target costs and savings, highlighting variances and risks to stakeholders
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process, working with operational teams to ensure alignment
- Deliver accurate and timely reporting in line with contract and client requirements
- Work closely with client finance teams to support transparent data and reporting
- Support preparation for client and internal finance reviews

PEOPLE: Relationship Management
- Build strong working relationships across Jockey Club Experiences and client teams
- Support non-finance stakeholders by improving their understanding of financial performance and KPIs
- Work collaboratively across teams to ensure alignment of reporting and financial outputs
- Engage effectively with client stakeholders to support contract performance and reporting requirements
Candidate Requirements: Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Initiatives working skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Experience within a finance or accounting role, ideally supporting management accounting processes
- Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, macros)
- Competent in Compass Discovery and Power BI
- Experience working with financial systems (e.g. SAP or similar) desirable
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Good understanding of financial processes including reporting, reconciliations, and forecasting
