Assistant Financial Accountant - MUSIC Industry Part Qual £40-45k Perm and Hybrid (SOHO)
I’m recruiting for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join the finance team of one of my clients. Some hands-on tax experience is critical for this one.
You don’t need to be a tax specialist, but you will need practical experience supporting areas such as VAT, corporation tax or other tax compliance activities, alongside a good grounding in financial accounting.
It’s a broad role, working closely with the Financial Accountant and gaining exposure across tax, treasury, statutory reporting and month-end accounting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The role will include:
- Supporting VAT, corporation tax and wider tax compliance
- Working on withholding tax and US tax processes
- Supporting cash flow forecasting, FX and treasury activities
- Preparing month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assisting with statutory reporting and year-end audit
- Supporting areas including P11Ds, PSA and R&D tax claims
I’m looking for someone with at least two years’ finance experience, either within industry or through a combination of practice and industry. You’ll need strong financial accounting skills, good Excel capability and, importantly, some genuine exposure to tax compliance work.

If you’re working towards ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent qualification, that would be a bonus rather than a prerequisite. But if you are not, you must have practical experience.
This would suit someone who has built a solid base in finance and wants a role where they can develop much broader experience across financial accounting, tax and treasury.
