Role Overview
As a Assistant Finance Analyst within the Account to Report team, you will deliver high-quality accounting and reporting services while supporting a strong financial control environment.
You will take ownership of defined accounting areas, working closely with Finance Analysts and Senior Finance Analysts to deliver accurate period-end reporting, understand financial performance and ensure balance sheet accounts are appropriately reconciled and supported.
The role provides an opportunity to develop broad financial accounting experience while building relationships across Finance and the wider business and contributing to Sky's continuous improvement and finance transformation agenda.
What You’ll Do
- Perform period-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, with support from Finance Analysts and Senior Finance Analysts where required.
- Take ownership of defined P&L and Balance Sheet areas, understanding the underlying transactions and key financial movements.
- Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring they are accurate, appropriately supported and posted within agreed deadlines.
- Complete and maintain Balance Sheet reconciliations in accordance with Sky policies, proactively investigating and resolving reconciling items.
- Review financial performance and provide clear and insightful variance commentary for assigned areas.
- Build effective relationships with key stakeholders across Finance and the wider business, acting as a point of contact for your accounting areas.
- Support internal and external audit activity, responding directly to audit queries and ensuring appropriate supporting evidence is available.
- Maintain a strong financial control environment, ensuring processes are appropriately documented, compliant and well governed.
- Support continuous improvement, including automation, process simplification and standardization of reporting and accounting activities.
- Participate in finance transformation initiatives and other ad-hoc projects as required.
- Provide support and coaching to outsourced partners

What You'll Bring
Essential Criteria
- Relevant recent experience supporting month-end close within a General Ledger/accounting environment.
- A good understanding of double-entry accounting, P&L and Balance Sheet accounting.
- Ability to take ownership of an end-to-end accounting area with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to investigate financial movements and identify the underlying causes of variances.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to improve or automate processes.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- SAP experience is desirable.
- Ideally studying towards a professional accountancy qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or ICAS.

The hybrid working expectations for this role are 2 days in the Livingston, Scotland office per week.
