Gleeson Recruitment Group are proud to be supporting a successful and growing organisation operating within a fast-paced operational environment, who are looking to appoint an ambitious Assistant Financial Controller to join their finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant seeking a broad role with genuine exposure to senior leadership, responsibility for a small team, and the opportunity to influence business performance through high-quality financial reporting and commercial support.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, forecasting and budgeting, whilst partnering with operational stakeholders across the business to drive performance and continuous improvement.

This position offers a blend of financial control, commercial analysis, management reporting and team leadership, making it an ideal next step for someone looking to progress their career within a dynamic and evolving organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce monthly profit and loss and balance sheet reporting in line with group reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and robust financial controls.
  • Analyse financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying key trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare meaningful commentary and insights to support management decision making.
  • Lead the monthly rolling forecast process, collaborating with stakeholders across multiple functions.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment across the business.
  • Partner with operational and support teams to improve financial performance and cost efficiency.
  • Support initiatives focused on process improvement, controls enhancement and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage and develop a team, providing day-to-day guidance and support.
  • Assist in delivering timely, accurate and insightful financial information to senior leadership.

About You

We are keen to speak with ambitious finance professionals who combine strong technical accounting skills with a proactive and commercially minded approach.

You will ideally possess:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
  • Experience in a Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Assistant Financial Controller or similar role.
  • Strong month-end, reporting, forecasting and budgeting experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyse and manipulate large data sets.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a passion for simplifying processes and enhancing controls.
