Location: Horwich, BL6 6JW

Contract: Full-Time Hours / Permanent

Salary: £67,925 - £83,600

About the Role:

Cumberland Farms is looking for an Assistant Financial Controller to join our Finance function at our Head Office in Horwich. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial control and reporting activities across the business.

You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of accurate and timely month-end reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, overseeing balance sheet activities and contributing to the preparation of statutory financial statements and year-end audit requirements.

Working closely with the wider Finance function and key stakeholders across the business, you will provide technical accounting expertise, support financial reporting requirements and help ensure robust processes and controls are maintained across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional with strong financial accounting and control experience who is looking to develop their career within a fast-paced and complex business.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the Financial Controller with the day-to-day financial control and reporting activities across the business, ensuring accurate and timely month-end reporting.
  • Lead and manage a team within the Finance function, providing direction, coaching and support to develop capability and maintain high standards of delivery.
  • Oversee key balance sheet activities, including reconciliations, reviews and resolution of outstanding items, ensuring robust financial controls are maintained.
  • Support the preparation of statutory financial statements and lead the coordination of year-end audit requirements, ensuring key deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Oversee local statutory reporting and cash flow reporting, providing financial analysis and insight into key movements and variances.
  • Work closely with Shared Services and wider Finance teams to resolve accounting queries, strengthen processes and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Provide technical accounting support to the wider Finance function and identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting.

What we’re looking for:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with significant post-qualified experience in financial accounting or financial control.
  • Strong experience in month-end reporting, balance sheet management, statutory reporting and audit.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, with experience of IFRS 16 advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing and developing a team, with the ability to provide clear direction and support.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, governance, compliance and accounting standards.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with strong Excel and financial systems experience. SAP and Qube experience would be advantageous.
