Job Description

About the Company

My client are an established UK-based global engineering and manufacturing company specialising in industrial automation solutions, serving customers across critical infrastructure and process industries worldwide. A fantastic name within their field and a highly-regarded employer in the local area.

Client Details

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this position supports financial reporting, risk management, and audit activities, helping to ensure a strong control environment and adherence to regulatory and tax requirements.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Financial Controller with the delivery of accurate and timely monthly management accounts, financial reporting and analysis.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and balance sheet reviews.
  • Prepare and review financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with relevant accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts and financial plans, providing analysis and insight into key variances and business performance.
  • Produce regular financial reports and management information for senior stakeholders, highlighting trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts, audit requirements and other external reporting.
  • Work closely with finance and non-finance stakeholders across the business to resolve accounting queries and improve financial processes.
  • Support internal controls and financial governance, identifying opportunities to strengthen processes and mitigate financial risk.
  • Assist with cash flow management, working capital analysis and monitoring of key financial metrics.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function, including process automation, standardisation and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide guidance and support to finance colleagues, helping to maintain high standards of financial control and reporting.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the financial performance of a global engineering and manufacturing business operating across international markets.

A Successful Assistant Financial Controller Should Have:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • A CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
