Company Description
The Dockyard Social is a small independent business in Glasgow and Scotland’s leading street food, events, and wedding venue. After 8 years of hard work, we have a fiercely loyal following, and our business continues to grow year on year. Now, we are looking to add to our senior management team.
Location
Located in Finnieston, close to the SEC, OVO Hydro, and Glasgow’s West End.
Hours (Based on average work week, can be affected by private events)
- 40hrs per week. Wed-Sun. 1 evening shift off per week shared with GM.
- Wednesday – Thurs: 10am – 4pm
- Friday – Saturday: 10am – 11pm
- Sunday: 10am – 8pm
Salary
From 29K-31K, dependant on experience.
Work Environment
As well as being a street food venue, supporting other local businesses, we have a full calendar of weekly events. We host weddings and corporate events. We have a strong and diverse team of bar staff, floor staff, maintenance staff, events, and senior management. As well as this, we outsource local creatives to help with marketing.
A great team of superstars to lead and develop. We have many social enterprise and creative projects that we are hoping to launch within the next year, hence why we are now looking to grow our team with someone reliable and hard-working.
Role Description
The Assistant General Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at The Dockyard Social in Glasgow. This role supports the General Manager in the day-to-day running of the venue, ensuring all corporate events, private hires, and regular service periods are delivered to a high standard. - Supervising front-of-house operations
- Coordinating with street food traders and bar teams
- Overseeing event set-up and breakdown
- Maintaining health and safety, licensing, and compliance standards
- Supporting staff scheduling, training, and performance
- Handling guest and client inquiries
- Helping resolve operational issues during live events
- Working closely with the events team on planning and logistics
- Monitoring stock and supplier relationships
- Contributing to revenue and cost control
- Upholding Dockyard’s reputation for engaging, well-run experiences
Qualifications
- Experience in hospitality or bar management, including supervising front-of-house operations.
- Strong people management skills, with experience in team leadership.
- Operational and organisational skills, including venue coordination, logistics planning, attention to detail, and problem-solving under pressure.
- Customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build positive client relationships and manage guest feedback in a professional manner.
- Knowledge of health and safety, licensing, and compliance requirements relevant to hospitality and events environments.
- Commercial awareness, including basic budgeting, cost control, stock management, and an understanding of revenue drivers in a busy venue.
- Comfort working evenings and weekends as required by event schedules; reliable, hands-on, and adaptable in a high-energy environment.
- Previous experience in a similar Assistant General Manager, Duty Manager, or senior supervisor role is desirable but not essential.

As we approach a new period of growth, we're on the lookout for a seasoned hospitality professional who cares and is ready to be a hands-on addition to our team. Ideally, we'd like a candidate with a strong bar or restaurant background to focus primarily on developing our incredibly enthusiastic team while having a cool head to oversee the daily operations in place of the GM. Applicants should have experience working in a fast-paced hospitality environment, be keen to learn, and understand the importance of guest experience.
