Hays are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly successful agri-food business for an Assistant Hatchery Manager to join their operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual with experience in poultry, agriculture, livestock, food production or a related environment to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will join a fast-paced operation and play a key role in ensuring the efficient running of hatchery activities while maintaining the highest standards of welfare, biosecurity and operational performance.
Your new role
Reporting to the Hatchery Manager, you will support the day-to-day management of hatchery operations, ensuring that eggs are processed efficiently through incubation to chick dispatch.
You will supervise staff, coordinate logistics, maintain equipment and ensure production targets are achieved while adhering to strict health, safety and biosecurity standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily hatchery activities, including egg handling, incubation and chick dispatch.
- Supervising, training and supporting hatchery staff to ensure efficient operations.
- Coordinating transport logistics for eggs and chicks, including vehicle maintenance schedules.
- Monitoring and maintaining high standards of hygiene, welfare and biosecurity.
- Assisting with the maintenance and servicing of hatchery equipment, incubators and hatchers.
- Maintaining accurate production records and performance data.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to maximise efficiency and productivity.
- Providing out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures, industry regulations and health and safety requirements.

What you'll need to succeed
Essential
- Full valid driving licence.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping abilities.
- Flexible approach to working hours and participation in an on-call rota.
Desirable
- Previous experience within poultry production, hatchery operations, agriculture, farming or livestock management.
- Supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and maintenance knowledge.
- Good IT skills and computer literacy.
