Role Description
The Assistant Head Coach role is a part-time hybrid position based in Doncaster, with core coaching duties on-site and some planning, administration, and communication tasks performed from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Head Coach in designing and delivering training sessions
- Supervising swimmers during practices
- Providing technical feedback on stroke technique, starts, turns, and race strategies
- Helping monitor athlete development
- Maintaining training records
- Communicating with swimmers and families about schedules and performance expectations

- Assisting with meet preparations
- Attending competitions as required
- Ensuring a safe training environment
- Contributing to long-term program planning within the club’s coaching team
Qualifications
- Coaching and technical skills: Strong understanding of swimming technique, training principles, and race preparation; prior experience coaching swimmers at club or performance level.
- Planning and organizational skills: Ability to plan structured training sessions, manage time effectively, and support meet logistics and athlete scheduling.
- Communication and interpersonal skills: Clear, encouraging communication with athletes, families, and staff; ability to give constructive feedback and work collaboratively in a coaching team.
- Safeguarding and safety: Knowledge of safeguarding best practices, commitment to athlete welfare, and familiarity with pool safety standards and risk management.
- Qualifications and experience: Relevant coaching certifications (e.g., national or regional swimming coaching qualifications), current or willingness to obtain first aid and safeguarding training, and experience working with youth and adult athletes.
- Personal attributes: Positive leadership style, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to motivate swimmers of varying abilities while promoting inclusion and respect.
