Assistant Headteacher Safeguarding, Behaviour & Attendance Lead

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting inclusive practices and personal development across the school and ensuring that all learners have access to high-quality education tailored to their individual needs.

Purpose of the Role

To provide strategic leadership across behaviour, attendance and safeguarding, ensuring that all pupils are safe, supported and able to engage successfully in education. The postholder will work as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, promoting high standards of pastoral care, attendance, behaviour and safeguarding throughout the school.

We are seeking a candidate to build and strengthen our leadership team and its capacity to support the school. Areas of responsibility could include some or all of the following, though we are open to ideas for candidates with particular strengths:

  • Behaviour and engagement
  • Safeguarding Lead
  • Personal development
  • Attendance
  • Assistant SENDCo role

About The School

Clay Hill School is a specialist independent school for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), set within the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of the New Forest. Pupils are taught in small classes, with a strong focus on personalised learning, wellbeing, and progress. Every pupil is seen as an individual, and their education is shaped around their unique strengths, needs, and aspirations.

Person Specification

  • Honours degree in a related subject
  • PGCE or equivalent in secondary or primary education
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to deliver elements of key curriculum areas
  • Successful experience teaching the relevant subject at Key Stage 2, 3 or 4
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents/carers, external agencies, and students.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent relationships with children and young people
  • Organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
