About the Role
Tilewood School is a brand-new specialist school opening in Buckinghamshire, and we're looking for an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to join our founding leadership team.
This is your chance to help create a school from the ground up—a place where innovation is encouraged, relationships come first, and every decision is made with our pupils at the heart.
Working alongside an experienced Headteacher, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our vision, culture and curriculum while continuing to do what you love most: teaching. Around 70% of this role remains classroom based, giving you the opportunity to lead through outstanding practice while influencing whole-school improvement.
If you're an ambitious middle or senior leader ready to take the next step—or an experienced Assistant Headteacher looking for the rare opportunity to build a school from day one—we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
This is a varied leadership role combining strategic responsibility with a significant teaching commitment, allowing you to lead by example while driving whole-school improvement.
- Support the Headteacher in establishing the strategic vision and direction of the school.
- Deliver consistently outstanding teaching while modelling best practice across the staff team.
- Lead the development of an engaging, ambitious and highly personalised curriculum.
- Champion inclusive, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approaches that enable every pupil to succeed.
- Coach, mentor and develop colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning.
- Help establish robust safeguarding, behaviour and operational systems from the outset.
- Build positive partnerships with families, local authorities and multidisciplinary professionals.
- Play a key role in creating an exceptional school community where pupils, families and staff feel valued, supported and inspired.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
