Anglesey Primary School is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and ambitious leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for SEND and Inclusion.
We are a large, diverse and inclusive primary school at the heart of the Lozells community in Birmingham. Our children come from a rich range of cultures, languages and backgrounds, and our values of Ambition, Pride and Success sit at the heart of school life. We want every child to feel safe, valued and successful, while being challenged and supported to achieve their very best. This commitment to high expectations within a safe, nurturing and positive environment is central to our school vision.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about SEND, inclusion and improving outcomes for children, but who also wants to make a wider contribution as a senior leader.
Anglesey was judged Good in all areas at its March 2024 Ofsted inspection, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years. We are proud of what has been achieved, while being equally ambitious about the next stage of our development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The opportunity
Our new Assistant Headteacher will provide strategic leadership for SEND and inclusion across the school. You will lead and develop our provision, strengthen inclusive classroom practice and ensure that children with additional needs receive the right support, at the right time, without lowering expectations of what they can achieve.

We are looking for someone who:
- is an experienced and successful teacher and school leader;
- has strong knowledge and experience of SEND and inclusive practice;
- understands the statutory responsibilities of the SENDCo and the graduated approach;
- can lead, inspire, support and appropriately challenge colleagues;
- believes passionately that SEND should never mean reduced ambition;
- can build strong relationships with children, families and professionals;
- is strategic, organised and able to turn plans into sustained improvements;
- wants to contribute fully to the wider leadership and life of Anglesey;
- and shares our commitment to Ambition, Pride and Success.
