Assistant Headteacher - Inclusion & Achievement

ASAP Start | Redbridge | Temp-to-Perm Full-Time | £65,000-£73,000 DOE

A values-driven primary school in Redbridge is seeking an Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion & Achievement to join their Senior Leadership Team. This is a strategic role with responsibility for ensuring that all pupils - including those with SEND, EAL, disadvantaged backgrounds and other vulnerable groups - receive ambitious, high-quality provision.

What Will You Lead?

  • Inclusion and achievement from Nursery to Year 6
  • Whole-school strategy for SEND, EAL and vulnerable groups
  • Line management and development of the SENDCo
  • School improvement priorities linked to inclusion and outcomes
  • High-quality adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice
  • Monitoring, evaluation and evidence-based decision-making

Key Questions to Consider

  • Do you have the strategic vision to embed inclusion across every layer of school life?
  • Can you analyse data, identify barriers and translate this into clear, impactful action?
  • Are you confident coaching, mentoring and challenging colleagues to raise standards?
  • Do you bring strong SEND knowledge, including statutory responsibilities and the Code of Practice?
  • Are you able to model outstanding teaching and support others to refine their practice?
  • Can you build positive relationships with families, external agencies and professionals?

Your Core Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Shape and deliver the school's vision and strategic direction
  • Lead inclusion as a central pillar of school improvement
  • Support and challenge staff to improve practice
  • Contribute to recruitment, induction and professional development
  • Deputise for senior leaders when required

SEND & Inclusion

  • Provide strategic leadership for SEND provision
  • Ensure statutory duties are met effectively
  • Evaluate interventions and additional provision
  • Promote adaptive teaching and inclusive practice
  • Work closely with families, governors and external agencies

EAL & Language Development

  • Lead provision for pupils learning English as an Additional Language
  • Promote language-rich classrooms and vocabulary development
  • Support staff with strategies for different stages of language acquisition

Achievement & Vulnerable Groups

  • Analyse attainment and progress data
  • Develop strategies to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils
  • Ensure interventions are targeted and evaluated for impact

Teaching & Learning

  • Model excellent teaching through class teaching, groups, team teaching or demonstration lessons
  • Coach and mentor colleagues
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning

What You Bring

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong primary teaching experience
  • Successful leadership experience within a primary school
  • Deep understanding of inclusion, SEND, EAL and adaptive teaching
  • Strong analytical skills and evidence-based decision-making
  • Excellent communication, organisation and professional integrity
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality and pupil wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

Salary & Contract

  • £65,000-£73,000 DOE
