Walworth Castle Hotel is a stunning 12th-century castle hotel set in the heart of County Durham. With 32 individually designed bedrooms, a busy restaurant and bar, weddings, conferences, afternoon tea, and exclusive-use events, no two days are ever the same.
We’re looking for an ambitious, hands-on Assistant Hotel Manager who is ready to develop into one of the hotel’s future leaders.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about hospitality, enjoys leading from the front, and wants to build a long-term career in hotel management.
For the right person, this role offers a genuine opportunity to progress into a Head of Department position within 12 months, supported by coaching, mentoring, and hands-on development.
The Role
Working alongside the General Manager and Deputy General Manager, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the hotel.
You will:
- Lead operational shifts across the hotel.
- Act as Manager on Duty.
- Support the restaurant, bar, weddings, and events operation.
- Deliver exceptional guest experiences and resolve guest queries professionally.
- Lead, motivate, and develop the team.
- Maintain high service, cleanliness, and presentation standards across the hotel.
- Confidently address performance issues and ensure standards are consistently met.
- Support reception operations when required.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and onboarding of new team members.
- Help manage labor, stock, and operational costs.
- Identify opportunities to improve service and operational performance.

This is a hands-on operational management role. You’ll spend your time leading the team, supporting departments, and ensuring our guests receive an exceptional experience every day.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has previous supervisory or management experience within hospitality.
- Is a confident leader who leads by example.
- Enjoys developing, motivating, and coaching people.
- Isn’t afraid to challenge poor performance or maintain high standards.
- Has excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Can remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
- Is passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences.
- Wants to build a long-term career in hotel management.

- £28,000 per annum.
