Job Description

Under the general guidance of the Executive Housekeeper, the Assistant Housekeeping Manager will assist in leading housekeeping functions from both an operational and strategic perspective, ensuring exceptional standards across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces, while building and developing a high-performing team.

As a pre-opening position, there will also be a strong focus on establishing processes, implementing brand standards, driving efficiencies, and working closely with key stakeholders across the property to deliver a seamless luxury guest experience.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To maintain, direct, and develop the highest standards of cleanliness in the rooms, social and wellness areas, and colleagues’ facilities.
  • To maintain and direct inspection of all areas of the property in accordance with standards.
  • To work closely with Executive Housekeeper and the team to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of opportunities to continually improve management tools and practices in the department.
  • To look for ways to improve how we do things here, knows how to make this happen, and who to talk to.
  • To ensure that housekeeping daily section areas are prepared and completed and a luxury individually tailored guest experience is delivered to our guests every day.
  • To oversee the issue of all housekeeping equipment ensuring the strict control and security procedures are always maintained.
  • To plan and control periodical preventative cleaning, Weekly/Monthly project schedules of apartments, public, and back-of-house areas, and ensure they are executed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • To maintain a current and thorough knowledge of all systems (Opera, Unifocus, Adaco, Fourth Hospitality, LQA, H&S system).
  • To chair the daily departmental briefings and participate in the housekeeping team meetings.
  • To ensure the team is well informed and understand the vision for the team and company, engaging with them regularly and encouraging feedback in a positive way.
  • To listen to and act on feedback.
  • To meet with VIP and long stay guests to introduce housekeeping services available and to agree on any additional housekeeping requirements.
  • To ensure all guest queries and complaints are dealt with within the same day and that the Executive Housekeeper, Rooms Director, and General Manager are informed.
  • To ensure that induction and training of new colleagues and agency team members has been carried out and that they are fully aware of the standards of performance, including health and safety requirements.
  • To undertake on-the-job training with colleagues in order to maintain standards.
  • To assist the Executive Housekeeper with the preparation and the undertaking of colleague’s appraisals.
  • To manage day-to-day performance standards, know how to get the best from the team.
  • To assist the Executive Housekeeper with the team’s development plans, identifying training needs, and increasing team engagement.
  • To maintain adequate supplies of all stock and conduct stock takes of operating supplies and equipment (e.g., linen, cleaning supplies, guest amenities, etc.).
  • To ensure proper storage of OSE and FFE.
  • To assist the Executive Housekeeper with all Housekeeping related orders while effectively managing costs and resources in the area of accountability.
  • To assist in month-end reports, P&L reports, forecasting, and budgeting process.
  • To assist the Executive Housekeeper in producing departmental rotas.
  • To liaise with contractors as and when necessary.
  • To ensure that any security issues are brought to the attention of the Executive Housekeeper, Rooms Director, and General Manager.
  • To ensure the team complies with all relevant internal rules, policy, and standard operating procedures, including those relating to Health and Safety, Data Protection, etc.
  • To contribute fully as a member of the company’s management team.
  • To demonstrate effective interdepartmental cooperation by leading as an example.

Qualifications

  • Ability to respond to basic guest queries and complaints.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in a management role within a housekeeping department in a luxury hotel.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse team including some experience of performance management principles.
  • Confident communication skills internally and externally.
  • Strong organization skills including the ability to prioritize workload of self and others.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Proven team leader with a high level of energy and motivation with a proven track record of living the company's values.
  • An intermediate to proficient understanding of computer systems such as: Opera Cloud, Unifocus Property Management System, Adaco, Fourth Hospitality, Outlook, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good commercial awareness including the ability to plan and work within an agreed budget.
  • Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, and have a high-level attention to detail.
  • Maintain positive and productive working relationships with other team members and departments.
  • Ability to work independently and to partner with others to promote an environment of teamwork.
  • Must be able to stand or walk a minimum eight-hour shift.
  • Must be able to twist, tow (push or pull), reach, bend, climb, and carry objects as necessary.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to work inside and outside at all times of the year as needed, based upon business volumes.
