Assistant HR Business Partner

Do you enjoy turning complex people challenges into practical solutions? We're looking for an experienced HR professional to join our People Services team as an Assistant HR Business Partner. You'll work alongside a team of HR Business Partners and managers to develop leadership capability, support colleagues and help create an inclusive, high-performing culture that consistently delivers for our tenants.

About The Role

This is a varied generalist role where no two days are the same. You'll be a trusted adviser on employee relations, organisational change and wider people initiatives, using insight, professional judgement and up-to-date HR and employment law knowledge to help the business make confident decisions.

What will you be doing?

As an Assistant HR Business Partner, you will:

  • Build trusted relationships with managers and stakeholders, offering constructive challenge and practical support.
  • Coach managers to handle people matters confidently, consistently and fairly.
  • Ensure complex employee relations casework are effectively managed from initial advice through to resolution.
  • Apply employment legislation, case law and HR best practice to manage risk and achieve effective outcomes.
  • Support restructures, TUPE and other organisational change programmes.
  • Review HR policies and practices and deliver engaging training to managers and colleagues.
  • Use management information to identify trends, share insight and shape people decisions.
  • Work with wider People Services colleagues to anticipate workforce needs and develop joined-up solutions.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Level 7 CIPD qualification, or equivalent technical expertise gained through significant HR experience.
  • Strong generalist HR experience, including managing complex employee relations cases through to completion.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment legislation and case law, and the ability to apply it consistently.
  • A proven ability to build credibility, influence stakeholders and challenge thinking appropriately.
  • Experience of supporting organisational change and developing solutions that improve performance while meeting legal requirements.
  • Effective coaching, communication and analytical skills, with a practical and collaborative approach.

Our ideal candidate?

You'll be an experienced and credible HR professional who is comfortable operating in a varied generalist environment, balancing complex casework and organisational priorities while building effective relationships with managers and stakeholders.

Your CV will clearly demonstrate:

  • Strong generalist HR experience, including managing complex employee relations cases through to completion.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of employment legislation and case law.
  • Experience supporting organisational change, such as restructures, TUPE or other significant change activity.
  • Evidence of building credibility, influencing stakeholders and appropriately challenging management thinking.

This role is based at our Bath Row office in Central Birmingham. As this is a highly visible role supporting managers and colleagues across Midland Heart, you'll need to be present in the office for at least 3 days of the working week with the remainder to be worked from home.
