Assistant Management Accountant – 15 Month FTC
Bury St Edmunds | Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days home
SRM Recruitment are working with an established and growing organisation in the Bury St Edmunds area to recruit an Assistant Management Accountant on a fixed-term contract of up to 15 months.
This is a varied role within a busy finance team and would suit an AAT qualified accountant or someone currently studying towards ACCA/CIMA who is looking to build on their management accounting experience.
Working closely with the Management Accountant, you’ll support the month-end process for a key operational area of the business, with exposure across management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll analysis, stock accounting and business partnering.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Preparing and posting month-end journals
- Completing and analysing balance sheet reconciliations
- Investigating and resolving queries arising from the management accounts
- Assisting with monthly management information and reporting packs
- Taking ownership of monthly overtime and bonus calculations, including reconciliation of relevant control accounts
- Working closely with operational and payroll teams to investigate and resolve payment queries
- Maintaining appropriate financial controls around payroll-related submissions
- Preparing monthly stock schedules and reconciling movements against physical stock counts
- Processing warehouse and vehicle stock-count information
- Posting journals to allocate materials and costs to the appropriate projects
- Supporting the coordination of year-end stock counts
- Providing analysis to finance and operational stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities to improve existing finance processes and controls
- Supporting the wider finance team with ad hoc analysis as required

About you:
You’ll ideally be AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA/CIMA, with previous experience working within a finance or accounting environment. You’ll need strong Excel skills, good attention to detail and the confidence to communicate with colleagues outside of finance. Experience of management accounts, reconciliations, payroll-related accounting or process improvement would all be advantageous. Part-qualified ACCA/CIMA candidates are also encouraged to apply. Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be useful but is not essential.

The opportunity:
This is a great opportunity to gain broad management accounting experience within a sizeable and supportive finance function, working closely with both finance and operational teams. The role is based in the Bury St Edmunds area, with hybrid working of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home, and is offered on a fixed-term basis for up to 15 months.
