About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance & Accounts Team in Leicester.
Supporting the Finance team in the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting, management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow monitoring and regulatory submissions. The role assists with month-end and year-end processes, financial analysis, maintaining robust financial controls, and driving continuous improvements to support informed business decision-making.
Some of your duties will include:
- Supporting the month-end reporting process, including preparing and maintaining schedules for fixed assets, prepayments and accruals, and posting journals.
- Supporting in preparing initial drafts of monthly management accounts and performance reports, including variance analysis and commentary for review.
- Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations and investigating and resolving reconciling items on a timely basis.
- Supporting the preparation of VAT returns and other statutory or regulatory submissions, ensuring underlying records are complete and accurate.
- Taking day-to-day responsibility for designated areas of the purchase and nominal ledgers, reviewing transactions and resolving queries.
- Reviewing purchase ledger, expenses, credit card and nominal payment processes, providing guidance and cover where required.
- Supporting cashflow monitoring, partner current account reconciliations and the preparation of partner payments and drawings.
- Preparing audit schedules and responding to routine audit queries, escalating more complex matters appropriately.
- Supporting year-end and statutory accounts preparation, including tax analysis and reconciliation of supporting schedules.
- Producing financial data and insight to support decision-making, including analysis of WIP, chargeable time, fee targets and departmental performance.
- Supporting finance projects, systems developments and process improvements, including testing, documentation and implementation activities.
- Helping to maintain robust financial controls and identifying opportunities to improve the accuracy, efficiency and consistency of Finance processes.
- Providing guidance and review support to junior team members and contributing to their on-the-job development, without formal line-management responsibility.
- Supporting the Chief Financial Officer, Head of Finance and Financial & Management Accountant as required.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

A little about you:
- Sound understanding of management accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and journal postings.
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end financial reporting processes.
- Ability to prepare and analyse balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Skilled in producing financial reports, variance analysis and management information to support decision-making.
- Working knowledge of VAT and financial compliance requirements.
- Competent in ledger management, including purchase ledger, nominal ledger and expense processes.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the use of formulas, pivot tables and data analysis techniques.
- Experience using finance and accounting systems to process transactions and produce reports.
- Ability to interpret financial data and identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Understanding of financial controls and commitment to maintaining accuracy, confidentiality and data integrity.
- Experience supporting audits and preparing supporting documentation and schedules.
Qualification – Education
- AAT qualified, or holding an equivalent or higher-level accounting qualification
