Part-Qualified Accountant (Temporary)

Location: Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire
Contract: Temporary, covering an absence. Start ASAP.
Reports to: Financial Controller
Office arrangement: Fully office-based

About the role

We are seeking a capable and detail-focused Part-Qualified Accountant to join our Finance team on a temporary basis, providing cover during a period of absence.

The role will support the preparation of monthly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow reporting and financial analysis across our UK and international operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who enjoys the detail of month-end reporting while gaining exposure to the commercial activities of an international construction business.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts.
  • Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and intercompany entries.
  • Complete balance-sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end close, ensuring reporting deadlines are achieved.
  • Produce variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods, highlighting key risks and trends.
  • Support annual budgets, periodic forecasts and cash-flow reporting.
  • Assist with financial reporting across UK and international entities.
  • Maintain the fixed-asset register and support depreciation calculations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, supplier statements and other key control accounts.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes where required.
  • Work closely with Finance, Sales and Operations teams to gather information and provide financial insight.
  • Assist with audit requirements, statutory reporting and ad-hoc finance projects.
  • Maintain robust financial controls and ensure records are accurate, complete and appropriately documented.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and reporting.

About you

You will be organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. You will have strong attention to detail, enjoy working with data and be confident communicating with stakeholders across the business.

Essential requirements

  • Part-qualified or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA, ACA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Previous experience in a finance, assistant accountant or management-accounting role.
  • Experience supporting month-end reporting, journals and reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and pivot tables.
  • Good understanding of accruals, prepayments, balance-sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across departments.

Desirable requirements

  • Experience using Xero, ApprovalMax and/or Mayday.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow reporting.
  • Experience working across multi-entity and/or international operations.
  • Experience in construction, project-based businesses or professional services.
  • Knowledge of Power BI or other financial-reporting tools.
