About the role
As an Assistant Management Accountant at Halfords, you'll play a vital role in delivering accurate financial reporting and supporting key business decisions. Working closely with the Management Accountant team, you'll be involved in period-end close activities, preparing insightful management reports, maintaining strong financial controls, and contributing to the smooth operation of the Record to Report process. Key responsibilities
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and period-end reporting.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, providing insight into business performance and key variances.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring strong controls and data integrity.
- Support month-end, year-end, and audit activities, helping to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting.
- Build effective relationships across the business to gather financial information and provide meaningful support to stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance finance processes, systems, and reporting.
About you
- Part-qualified or currently studying towards a professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA or ACA).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including reconciliations, accruals, and month-end processes.
- Proficient in Excel and comfortable working with finance systems and large datasets.
- Highly organised, analytical, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- A proactive team player with strong communication skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Desirable:
- Experience of budgeting, forecasting, or management reporting.
- Exposure to cost or inventory accounting.
- Knowledge of Power BI, Power Query, or Excel automation tools.

At Halfords, we operate a hybrid working policy with 2-3 days on site at our Support Centre in Redditch.
