Job Summary
The Assistant Management Accountant will support the delivery of accurate financial reporting, balance sheet control, budgeting, forecasting, and working capital analysis across MSS Entities - MSS UK, MSS USA & MSS France. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts or a part qualified person to join a busy finance team and working closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Operations.
The successful candidate will support the production of monthly management accounts, preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, assist with key reporting processes, reconcile and post bank reconciliations, and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency across the business. They will also be flexible and willing to support other areas of the accounts function when required. The Assistant Management Accountant will work closely with the Finance Business Partners, Finance Operations team, external advisors, and operational stakeholders to ensure accurate financial information and strong financial control.
Key Responsibilities
Tariff Management
- Calculate monthly tariff recharges due to customers and ensure invoices are raised accurately and on time
Management Accounts and Reporting
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reporting.
- Assist in ensuring financial reporting is completed in accordance with the monthly reporting timetable.
- Analyse overhead expenditure and identify potential risks and opportunities through engagement with operational stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of reports and analysis for management review.
- Assist with the preparation of management information submitted to Group Finance.

Financial Accounting and Control
- Prepare accurate balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Assist the Finance Business Partner with monthly balance sheet reviews.
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation differences and control account issues.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records and management information.
- Support month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Maintain compliance with Group accounting policies and financial controls.
Working Capital and Cash Management
- Perform working capital analysis, identifying risks and opportunities relating to inventory, debtors, and creditors.
- Support cash flow forecasting through the provision of accurate financial information.
- Assist in monitoring aged debtors, inventory levels, and other key working capital metrics.
- Provide analysis and recommendations to improve cash conversion and working capital performance.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Support the annual budgeting process by preparing financial analysis and reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly forecasts and reforecasts.
- Support variance analysis against budget and forecast targets.
- Contribute to the development of financial plans that support business objectives.
Statutory Reporting
- Completing VAT & Intrastat returns
- Completing US Sales Tax Returns
- Assist with Statutory Reporting for UK, France, and USA
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Part-qualified CIMA, ACCA or ACA or an experienced accountant
- 2-5 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work to strict reporting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Can work independently, use initiative, and manage their own workload.

Desirable
- Experience within a distribution, manufacturing, or supply chain environment.
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- Experience using Power BI.
- Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Exposure to international accounting, tax, or customs environments.
