Job Title: Assistant Finance Manager

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week

Location: Bakery 41, Wakefield

Are you currently working in finance, part-qualified and looking for a step up into a new challenge?

The Recipe

Working alongside the Finance Manager, you will have good knowledge and understanding of management accounting. By translating financial performance to non-financial colleagues within Manufacturing and Distribution, you will provide actionable insight to support decisions and keep performance on track.

The Role

You will act as the finance expert at our Bakery 41 site in Wakefield, taking responsibility for managing site finances, including variance analysis and balance sheet reporting. You will also support the Finance Manager with capital expenditure, forecasting, and budgeting activities, and deputise for the Finance Manager in their absence.

As part of the wider operations finance team, you will collaborate with colleagues across a network of bakeries and depots, contribute to national projects, and provide cover and support for peers when required.

You will champion continuous improvement, both personally through progression towards your financial qualification and professionally by driving efficiencies in financial processes. A key element of the role involves using your strong communication skills to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
