Our commitment to excellence and continuous improvement drives our success, and we are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our team in Milton Keynes to play a key role in supporting our financial operations and business growth.

Role Overview

This pivotal role will support the Finance team by delivering accurate and timely financial information, assisting in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to help steer commercial decisions. The Assistant Management Accountant will collaborate closely with various departments across the business, ensuring financial controls and compliance are maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes, liaising with operational teams to gather relevant data.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and analyse key financial reports to provide insights into business performance.
  • Help monitor and control costs in line with company objectives and retail industry standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial information for internal and external audits.
  • Work closely with the finance team to improve processes and automation within the accounting function.
  • Support VAT and other statutory compliance activities as required.
  • Contribute to ad hoc financial projects and business improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) or working towards professional accounting qualification.
  • Proven experience in a management accounting role, preferably within the retail sector or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and reporting standards.
  • Excellent Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software (experience with ERP systems is advantageous).
  • Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently across departments.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • A team player with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous learning.
