Assistant Management Accountant / Finance Associate
Location: London
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days in the office, 2 days from home
We are working with an established and growing specialist recruitment business that is looking to add an Assistant Management Accountant / Finance Associate to its internal finance team in London.
This is a varied role within a fast-paced recruitment environment, combining management accounting, transactional finance, contractor operations, and financial compliance. You will work closely with the wider finance and recruitment teams, gaining exposure to the commercial side of the business as well as the core accounting function.
The role would suit someone who already has experience within a recruitment or staffing business and understands the financial processes involved in temporary, contract, and freelance recruitment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the onboarding and compliance process for freelance and contract workers, ensuring IR35 documentation, compliance checks, and contracts are completed accurately.
- Oversee the processing of contractor timesheets, purchases, self-bills, and payments, ensuring information is accurate and processed within agreed deadlines.
- Support Gross Profit and margin reporting, reviewing placement data, and helping ensure accurate tracking of revenue and costs.
- Assist with month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and supporting schedules.
- Complete balance sheet, bank, and expenditure reconciliations, investigating, and resolving discrepancies.
- Manage accounts payable, purchase ledger, and payment runs, ensuring suppliers and contractors are paid accurately and on time.
- Support the wider finance team with cash allocation, credit control, and debtor management where required.
- Produce financial reports and analysis to support the finance team and wider business with understanding performance and profitability.
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate existing finance processes, reducing manual work and increasing efficiency.
- Work with the finance team to maximize the use of recruitment systems and finance technology, supporting ongoing systems and process improvements.

- Previous recruitment-sector experience is essential, ideally within a recruitment or staffing agency environment.
- Good understanding of temporary, contract, or freelance recruitment, including contractor timesheets, payments, invoicing, and margins.
- Previous experience across management accounts and transactional finance, with a good understanding of month-end processes.
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, Pivot Tables, data sorting, and manipulation.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work accurately in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
- Proactive and adaptable, with a genuine interest in systems, automation, and process improvement.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to investigate discrepancies and find solutions.
- Experience using Bullhorn, Iplicit, or similar recruitment/finance systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
