Assistant Management Accountant

Express Recruitment are proud to be partnering with a well-established, award-winning commercial law firm with a strong presence across the Midlands, who are seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join their high-performing finance team.

The successful candidate will hold proven experience supporting core management accounting routines, who values precision and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will provide crucial financial support to senior leadership within a supportive environment, with genuine scope for development and clear career advancement.

The role offers a competitive salary of £28,000 - £32,000 per annum depending on experience, paired with an exceptional benefits package including 25 days holiday plus bank holidays which increases through service, private medical insurance, study support, and strong long-term progression opportunities within a highly respected firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering accurate month-end support, including preparing and maintaining schedules for fixed assets, prepayments, accruals, and posting core nominal journals
  • Assisting in preparing initial drafts of monthly management accounts and performance reports, including variance analysis, commentary, and commercial financial insights
  • Producing key operational performance data to support decision-making, including analysis of WIP, chargeable time, fee targets, and departmental performance
  • Maintaining robust balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items on a timely basis, and supporting statutory/regulatory submissions including VAT returns
  • Supporting cashflow monitoring, partner current account reconciliations, and the preparation of partner payments and drawings

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience in a similar Accountant role
  • Sound understanding of core management accounting principles (accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, journals, and variance analysis)
  • AAT Qualified, or part-qualified/actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent accounting qualification
  • Proven experience supporting month-end and year-end financial reporting processes within a busy finance function (professional services/legal sector experience is advantageous)
  • Capability in Microsoft Excel alongside familiarity with modern finance/ERP systems
  • Good analytical capabilities with good attention to detail
