Assistant Management Accountant - European Investment Firm (Contract Position)
£200-£230 per day via umbrella
Hybrid working | London | Immediate start
An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a small, well-established European investment firm in a broad and varied Assistant Accountant role.
This is a great position for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on environment where they can take real ownership rather than being restricted to one narrow area of finance.
Working closely with the wider finance team, you will gain exposure across the UK and US businesses, supporting everything from accounts payable and expenses through to reconciliations, intercompany accounting, and month-end. As you develop in the role, there will also be the opportunity to take greater responsibility for the underlying books and accounts of the firm's operating companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the purchase ledger process through Sage, including invoice checking, coding, and obtaining appropriate approvals.
- Reviewing UK and US employee expenses through Navan, ensuring claims comply with company policy and are correctly categorised and posted.
- Preparing and setting up supplier and employee expense payments.
- Analysing recharged expenses, raising quarterly invoices to portfolio companies, and following up outstanding payments.
- Working with PAs and internal stakeholders to analyse corporate card expenditure and ensure costs are accurately recorded.
- Preparing bank reconciliations across multiple currencies.
- Reconciling intercompany balances across the group and investment funds.
- Preparing and posting recurring multi-currency journals in Sage.
- Supporting wider month-end accounting and finance processes.
- Over time, taking ownership of the books for the main UK and US operating companies through to trial balance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
