Role Description
The Assistant Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Henley Plumbing Supplies in Henley-On-Thames. This role supports the Branch Manager in the day-to-day running of the profit centre, including supervising staff, coordinating workflows, and ensuring excellent customer service for trade and retail customers. Typical tasks include helping customers at the trade counter and showroom, providing product advice, managing orders, and overseeing stock levels and merchandising. The Assistant Manager contributes to sales growth by supporting pricing, promotions, and local marketing initiatives, and helps maintain a safe, well-organized working environment. The role also involves handling administrative duties such as processing invoices, tracking deliveries, and assisting with performance and operational reporting.

- Strong customer service and sales skills, with the ability to build relationships with trade and retail customers and provide practical product advice.
- Experience in team support or supervisory responsibilities, including task delegation, coaching, and contributing to a positive, inclusive work environment.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and heating products, or a strong willingness and aptitude to learn technical product information quickly.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail in handling orders, stock, and documentation.
- Competence using point-of-sale systems and standard office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets) for ordering, inventory, and reporting.
- Effective communication skills, both spoken and written, with the ability to interact confidently with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
- Previous experience in a trade counter, merchant, retail, or similar distribution environment is beneficial.
- Ability to work on-site full time, including lifting and moving stock safely, and following health and safety processes.
- A relevant vocational qualification or experience in plumbing, heating, construction, or building supplies is an advantage but not essential.
