Assistant Manager - Accounting Services
Salary: up to £50k (DOE)
Location: Birmingham/Flexible Working
Butler Rose Recruitment is delighted to be supporting our client in the appointment of an Assistant Manager - Accounting Services.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant ready to take the next step into management, or an existing Assistant Manager looking to further develop their leadership skills within a supportive and growing practice. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of clients, review technical work, support and develop junior team members, and work closely with senior leadership to deliver exceptional client service.
The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative practice environment.
Role Requirements
- Managing a portfolio of clients including limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships.
- Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP and FRS 102/FRS 105.
- Reviewing bookkeeping and management accounts prepared by junior team members.
- Supporting the day-to-day supervision, coaching, and development of Junior Accountants, Apprentices, and other members of the team.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong and trusted relationships.
- Providing business advisory support, identifying opportunities to add value.
- Ensuring assignments are completed within agreed budgets and deadlines.
- Working closely with the Accounting Services Manager and Partners to support the planning and allocation of work, resource management, and the continued development of the department.
- Contributing to process improvements and maintaining high technical standards across the team.
- Assisting in special projects and initiatives as needed.

Personal Requirements
- ACA/ACCA qualified.
- A minimum of 5-8 years' experience.
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice at Senior Accountant level or equivalent.
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards.
- Experience reviewing technical work and supervising junior staff.
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent customer service and the ability to build rapport and manage client relationships.
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Office, with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in the medical sector would be advantageous.
