Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Manager to join their expanding Accounting Services team.
The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Assistant Manager to join a growing Accounting Services department, taking responsibility for managing a portfolio of clients while supporting the day-to-day leadership of the team.
This position would suit either an experienced Senior Accountant ready to take the next step into management, or an existing Assistant Manager seeking further exposure, responsibility and career progression within a supportive and forward-thinking practice.
The role offers a varied mix of client management, accounts preparation and review, team leadership, and business advisory work, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building client relationships whilst developing their technical and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of clients including limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
- Prepare and review statutory accounts under UK GAAP, FRS 102 and FRS 105
- Review bookkeeping, management accounts and financial information prepared by junior team members
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, developing strong and trusted relationships
- Provide business advisory support and identify opportunities to add value for clients
- Review VAT returns and support corporation tax compliance processes
- Ensure assignments are delivered within agreed budgets and deadlines
- Support the supervision, coaching and development of junior accountants, trainees and apprentices
- Work closely with senior leadership to assist with workflow planning, resource allocation and departmental development
- Maintain high technical standards across all assignments
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies
- Assist with ad-hoc projects and regulatory reporting requirements

Requirements
Essential
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Minimum 5+ years' experience within an accountancy practice environment
- Previous experience operating at Senior Accountant level or above
- Experience managing a client portfolio
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards including UK GAAP and FRS 102
- Experience reviewing accounts and supervising junior staff
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience using accounting and practice management software
