Tucked away in the heart of central Cambridge, The Eagle is a 17th-century, Grade II listed pub packed with history and character. Sitting opposite St Bene’t’s — the oldest surviving building in Cambridgeshire — this is a pub with a story unlike any other.

The Eagle is renowned as the place where Francis Crick and James Watson announced their discovery of the DNA double helix, making it one of Cambridge's most iconic pubs.
Today, we're continuing that legacy by delivering great food, great drinks and great hospitality to customers from Cambridge and beyond.

We're looking for an Assistant Manager who can lead from the front, inspire the team and help drive the pub forward.
Qualifications
🚀 What’s the opportunity?
As Assistant Manager, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of The Eagle, supporting the General Manager and helping to deliver an outstanding experience for every customer.
You’ll:
- Support the General Manager with the day-to-day running of the pub.
- Take ownership of shifts and confidently lead the team in the GM's absence.
- Lead, coach and develop the team, helping people grow and perform at their best.
- Maintain consistently high standards across service, food, cleanliness and customer experience.
- Build strong relationships with customers and help maintain The Eagle's fantastic reputation.
- Help drive sales and identify opportunities to grow the business.
- Ensure the pub is ready to deliver during busy services and key trading periods.
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure great communication and smooth service.
- Support with rotas, stock, cash management and other operational responsibilities.
- Champion health & safety, licensing and brand standards.
- Help create a positive team culture where people feel supported, motivated and proud of what they do.
- Bring new ideas and energy to help make the most of this unique venue.
- Act as a role model on every shift and lead by example.

👊 What we’re looking for
We're looking for an Assistant Manager or experienced hospitality leader who:
- Has previous experience as an Assistant Manager, Supervisor, Team Leader or similar.
- Has experience in a busy pub, restaurant, bar or high-volume hospitality environment.
- Is confident leading a team and taking ownership of a shift.
- Has strong communication skills and knows how to motivate and develop people.
- Takes pride in delivering an exceptional customer experience.
- Is commercially aware and understands how great service can drive sales and repeat business.
- Can remain calm, organised and hands-on when things get busy.
- Has a genuine passion for food, drinks and hospitality.
- Takes pride in maintaining high operational and service standards.
- Is proactive, energetic and isn't afraid to get stuck in.
- Wants to develop their skills and progress their career with Greene King.
