Salary: £250 per day umbrella / £220.26 per day PAYE Inclusive / £196.54 per day PAYE Exclusive

Job Description
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in West Berkshire for an Assistant Finance Manager to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will play an important role in ensuring effective financial management, value for money and decision making. You will deputise for the Finance Business Partner where required, providing continuity of leadership and professional expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the finance function, ensuring the team deliver against strategic and service objectives while promoting continuous improvement and best value.
- Oversee financial planning and performance, including budget preparation, forecasting, monitoring and analysis of surpluses, deficits and financial risks, ensuring alignment with the Medium-Term Financial Strategy.
- Provide expert financial advice and insight to budget managers, senior officers, service directors, Finance colleagues and elected Members, communicating complex financial information clearly and supporting effective decision-making.
- Maintain strong financial controls and governance, overseeing accounting treatment, reconciliations, statutory reporting and audit requirements, while deputising for the Finance Business Partner and exercising delegated authority when required.

Candidate Criteria
- Fully qualified accountant with significant experience in local government and schools finance.
- Proven experience of budget preparation, forecasting and financial analysis, together with the ability to provide high-level financial advice and challenge effectively within a complex organisation.
- Experience managing and developing teams, leading change and building productive relationships with senior officers and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret complex financial information, use financial management systems and models such as PowerBI, and present clear advice to senior audiences and elected members.
- Driving license and access to a vehicle, as this role requires travel to different schools.
