Assistant Finance Manager - 12 month FTC
Winchester | £40,000 per annum | Office Based
Venture Recruitment Partners are delighted to be working with a growing business in Winchester to recruit an Assistant Finance Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and hands-on finance professional looking to take the next step in their career within a dynamic SME environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day finance function, supporting the junior finance team and delivering accurate financial reporting, and assisting with the development of junior team members. Previous experience working within an SME and mentoring or supervising colleagues is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and management of the month-end close process, ensuring reporting deadlines are consistently achieved.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including detailed reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Review bank reconciliations and maintain the nominal ledger to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Complete VAT returns, fixed asset accounting, and general ledger reviews, ensuring compliance and accuracy across finance processes.
- Assist with payroll administration, including HMRC reporting and pension submissions.
- Support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors throughout the audit process.
- Provide operational finance support where required, including loan postings, payments, and refunds.
- Contribute to KPI reporting, covenant monitoring, and management information to support business decision-making.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning, working closely with budget holders across the business.

About You
- Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) or Qualified by Experience (QBE).
- Proven experience within a finance function, ideally gained within an SME or growing organisation.
- Previous experience mentoring, supervising, or supporting junior finance team members.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communicator, capable of building effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting and finance systems.
- Proactive, adaptable, and eager to contribute to continuous improvement within the finance function.
