The Lancashire Wildlife Trust is a conservation organization based at Brockholes Reserve, Preston New Road, Samlesbury, Preston, United Kingdom. Team members contribute to creating welcoming, well-managed sites for visitors while supporting the Trust’s mission to safeguard wildlife for future generations.
Role Description
The Assistant Manager will support the full-time Site Manager, Milan Hadzic, in overseeing operations at WWT Martin Mere and related wildlife trust activities, ensuring high standards of site management and visitor experience. This full-time, on-site role based in Chorley involves coordinating daily operational tasks, supervising staff and volunteers, and supporting the implementation of conservation and habitat management plans. The Assistant Manager will help manage information systems and site infrastructure, monitor performance metrics, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies. The role includes liaising with partners and stakeholders, assisting with reporting and administration, and contributing to community engagement and educational activities at the site. The Assistant Manager will also provide day-to-day support to Milan Hadzic in planning, problem-solving, and ensuring smooth running of all site operations.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in Information Systems and Information Technology, with the ability to manage and use digital tools to support site operations.
- Proficiency in System Administration and Technical Support to maintain and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network systems used on-site.
- Well-developed Analytical Skills for interpreting data, monitoring performance, and supporting informed decision-making in conservation and site management.
- Experience in operations or site management, preferably in conservation, environmental, or visitor-focused settings.
- Ability to work on-site full time in Chorley, demonstrating reliability, adaptability, and effective time management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with colleagues, volunteers, partners, and visitors in a gender-neutral and inclusive manner.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental best practices; experience with wildlife or conservation organizations is an advantage.
- Relevant education or training in information technology, environmental management, or a related field is beneficial, or equivalent practical experience.
