Job Title: Assistant Manager - Non-Ferrous Metals Trading
Our client is an international, corporate organisation, actively involved in the global trading of Non-Ferrous metals and minerals, such as Copper, Concentrates, Aluminium and other raw materials.
Reporting to Head of Operations for Non-Ferrous metals trading, as the newly appointed Assistant Manager you will be responsible for administering contracts, logistics, and payments associated with the non-ferrous and ferrous raw materials business. These responsibilities are essential to ensuring efficient, timely, and professional support to the trading team. In addition, the role provides direct support to the line manager and assumes responsibility for delegated tasks, contributing to the effective management and operation of the department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage Trade Operators and work closely with traders in London and overseas offices.
- Maintain good relationship with warehouses, suppliers, customers, and other service providers.
- Negotiate with logistical service providers to secure transportation functions at competitive prices.
- Assist with business development and back-office operation set up of minor metal trading.
- Manage execution/administration of Sales and Purchase Contract.
- Arrange the transportation of goods via Road, Rail, Barging, and Sea Freight.
- Arrange customs clearance of goods.
- Handle Bills of Lading and other commercially necessary documentation.
- Invoice relevant counterparties and control all payments by paying high attention to credit line.
- Liaise with relevant counterparties (direct or via branch offices/agents) by phone/email/letter.
- File contract delivery evidence to track all stages of transactions and update trading database.
- Improve workflow to reduce human error and to increase accuracy in contract administration.
- Administer currency receivables against FX contracts internally.
- Reconcile accounting data against data provided by customers/logistical service providers.
- Store, monitor, and extract information as required from the trading and accounting systems.
- Administer the filing system and archiving (electronic and paper).
- Negotiate and produce documents for contracts based on Letter of Credit terms.
- Negotiate with logistical service providers to secure transportation at competitive price.
- Process payments to logistical providers.
- Investigate settlement queries with the Accounts Department and customers.
- Arrange warehouse stock inspections and circulate internally against the internal controls.
- Assist with system development.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

- Demonstrable experience in a physical metal trading environment; with extensive Trade Operations/Contract Administration/Logistics experience essential.
- Working knowledge of Non-Ferrous Metals preferred.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Professional verbal and written English language skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage differing viewpoints professionally and achieve constructive outcomes.
- Strong prioritisation skills with the ability to manage workloads under the general guidance of the Line/Department Manager.
- Works effectively under pressure and to deadlines while remaining calm and methodical.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced skill in Excel.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to changing business requirements.
- Self-motivated approach with minimal supervision required.
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in learning and adapting to new systems.
- Previous experience of working with SAP advantageous.
