Assistant Manager

Salary: £31,000 - £34,750 + Bonus (Pro Rata)

Company Description

The Horseshoe in Downend is a proper community pub with friendly service, honest prices, and a loyal local following. From lively Friday nights and live sport to DJ nights, charity fundraisers, and events throughout the year, there's always something happening — and we're looking for an Assistant Manager who can bring the energy, lead from the front, and help make every visit a great one.

Job Description

🍻 What's the opportunity?

The Horseshoe is a busy, wet-led pub where personality, pace, and people skills really matter. With a younger crowd bringing plenty of energy on Friday and Saturday nights, we're looking for someone confident, hands-on, and comfortable managing a lively atmosphere.

As Assistant Manager, you'll work alongside the team on the pub floor, not from behind an office desk. You'll be visible, approachable, and ready to get stuck in — whether that's serving customers, supporting the team during a busy shift, or making sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the General Manager with the day-to-day running of the pub and stepping up in their absence.
  • Leading from the front, working alongside the team, and setting the standard for great service.
  • Creating a welcoming atmosphere and building strong relationships with our regulars and local community.
  • Managing busy shifts confidently, particularly during lively Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Understanding the atmosphere, reading situations, and handling challenging moments calmly and professionally.
  • Keeping standards high across service, cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
  • Making the most of live sport, DJ nights, and events to drive trade and create memorable experiences.
  • Helping organize and deliver community events and charity fundraisers, including our popular Macmillan events.
  • Coaching and motivating the team, helping everyone develop and perform at their best.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
