Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Photography Department at North Bristol NHS Trust.

Would you like to start, or develop, your career in medical photography in a dynamic, supportive team based in the state-of-the-art medical photography facility in the Brunel Building?

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated individual with a foundation degree in photography or HND / NVQ level 4 in photography, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

The Medical Photography department provides critical support to excellent care across the Trust and you will be delivering a high-quality service including medical photography (studio/ward/clinic) and ophthalmic photography. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a thorough understanding of image management / digital technology is essential.

You will support the department using your photography and image management skills to enable clinical decision making and care. You will work with the medical photographers to deliver the service with high standards of accuracy and efficiency.

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently, and with the team, to agreed timelines.

North Bristol NHS Trust is a large regional centre of excellence and dedicated to the development of all our staff; as such the successful candidate will be expected to develop while in post.

Previous applicants need not apply.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Undertake medical photography under the direction of the medical photographers and in accordance with local practice / policies.
  • To support the Medical Photography and Illustration department, with responsibility for image management within the Medical Image Management System (MIMS) and Job Management System (JMS) databases.
  • To deliver a service in line with the departmental and Trust guidelines, abiding by all consent, confidentiality, and legal guidelines.
  • To provide a photographic support service for non-clinical activities undertaken by the Trust following national and local standards.
  • To support the multi-skilling work within the department to ensure an efficient service is delivered in line with departmental service level agreements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
