Role Purpose
As the Senior Assistant Merchandiser, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the Merchandiser by managing day-to-day operations, ensuring deadlines are met, and supporting the Merchandise Assistant (MA). This position is key to achieving department KPIs, maintaining profitability, and driving trade success.
Key focus areas:
- Deputising for the Merchandiser in their absence.
- Overseeing the Merchandising department to meet financial and commercial goals.
- Aligning with the Buyer to plan and trade merchandising strategies.
Responsibilities
Department Management & Trading
- Manage the smooth functioning of the Merchandising department and meet all deadlines.
- Work with the Merchandiser to forecast sales, stock levels, and margin targets, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Monitor performance to identify growth opportunities and mitigate risks/losses.
- Optimise profit margins by reviewing size ratios, return rates, and inventory alignment with customer demand.
- Ensure intake targets are achieved and launch products efficiently and on time.

Strategy & Analysis
- Develop a deep understanding of product performance across all sales channels and techniques to influence results.
- Contribute to department strategy by proposing innovative, commercially successful solutions.
- Conduct and interpret ad hoc analyses, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
Team Development
- Guide the Merchandise Assistant (MA) in their development by setting measurable objectives and offering flexible mentorship.
- Manage the MA’s workload, ensuring tasks are prioritised effectively for maximum impact.
In this role, you’ll gain direct experience in category management, stakeholder collaboration, and Buyer relationship-building.
Technical & Behaviouoral Requirements
- Industry experience: Proven track record as an Assistant Merchandiser in fashion or apparel—preferably with LUXSIGNET, N-Launch, or similar tools.
- Analytical rigor: Strong ability to process data, spot trends, and propose data-driven decisions.
- Stakeholder communication: Confidence in attending weekly trade meetings and engaging with colleagues and vendors.
- Extension capability: As a Senior Assistant Merchandiser, you should demonstrate category ownership experience and performance oversight.
