About The Role

You will assist with the day-to-day running of the merchandising function and online shop, working closely with the Merchandising & Online Shop Manager to support sales, profit and excellent customer service. You will help maintain product and stock information on retail systems, generate repeat orders and routine reports, support stock takes and stock-room standards, and assist with online shop operations, fulfilment and customer enquiries. You will also deputise for the Merchandising & Online Shop Manager when required, and build effective working relationships with colleagues, suppliers and other key partners.

This is a full-time, permanent post, working 36.5 hours per week (with occasional working on evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays).

The role includes a moderate amount of physical activity, including picking, packing, lifting and moving stock. Due to operational demands, the role predominantly requires onsite working at the Museum, although up to one day per week working from home may be considered.

About You

You will have demonstrable experience of merchandising and/or systems at assistant manager or supervisor level in a fast-paced environment, together with a passion for retail, achieving targets and supporting a small team. You will have excellent communication skills, advanced IT literacy including experience of retail systems, and the ability to multitask under pressure while maintaining strong attention to detail. You will also hold a full clean driving licence. Knowledge of trading compliance and health and safety, ecommerce and online fulfilment, or experience within museums, galleries, heritage or cultural organisations would be advantageous.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
