About the Role
Fund Boards Council (FBC) is an independent, expert-led organisation dedicated to improving governance, transparency and value for investors across UK, Irish and Luxembourg-regulated fund boards.
We are at an important stage of our development, building the operational infrastructure to support a growing, data-led business, and we are looking for an Assistant Operations Manager to support the day-to-day running of our operations.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role for someone who is organised, proactive and keen to develop their operational experience in a small, high-trust environment. You will work closely with the Managing Director, Head of Operations, and the wider senior leadership team, supporting activity across finance, HR, IT, compliance and responsible business functions.
The role offers genuine scope for development. You will take responsibility for defined areas of day-to-day operational delivery, with guidance and oversight from the Managing Director and Head of Operations, and will have the opportunity to build greater autonomy and responsibility as your experience and the business develop.
What you will do
- Support the day-to-day operational activity of the business across finance, HR, IT and compliance, managing defined workstreams and keeping senior leadership informed through clear, concise reporting.
- On the finance side, manage expense tracking, invoice and budget monitoring, payroll administration and supplier relationships.
- Across HR, coordinate recruitment, onboarding, probationary reviews and training requirements, maintain HR documentation and support team members with day-to-day operational and administrative queries.
- Support the day-to-day administration of FBC’s IT systems, software licences and collaboration tools, liaising with outsourced IT and website providers where required.
- Help coordinate FBC’s B Corp certification and responsible business activities, supporting the implementation and ongoing administration of relevant frameworks and reporting requirements.
- Be encouraged to identify opportunities to improve processes and ways of working, escalating significant issues, risks and decisions appropriately. As your capability develops, you will take on increasing responsibility and may be asked to undertake other reasonable duties in line with the growth and development of the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
