About the job.

National Highways is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Planning Manager (Policy & Stakeholder) to join our Network Development Division.

As Assistant Planning Manager (Policy & Stakeholder), you will play a key role in supporting the Spatial Planning function’s engagement with government planning policy, assisting in the management of stakeholder relationships, and helping to coordinate the internal Spatial Planning community. You will provide analytical, coordination and advisory support to ensure National Highways’ planning activities are carried out effectively and in alignment with policy and organisational objectives.

This role will be based at any National Highways office location, with a balance of remote and office-based work. This role will require occasional travel to other offices and sites.

  • Assist in the preparation of National Highways’ input into government planning policy development, including collating evidence, drafting contributions, coordinating internal comments and monitoring policy developments.
  • Support engagement with external strategic stakeholders through the preparation of relevant materials, helping to maintain positive working relationships and ensuring accurate, timely sharing of information.
  • Support engagement on specific growth activity, including contributing to briefing materials and helping coordinate National Highways’ involvement in relevant projects or applications.
  • Provide analysis to spatial planning colleagues on the application of policy to specific planning cases, escalating issues as required and keeping records of recurring themes and learning.
  • Support the coordination and development of the Spatial Planning community, including organising knowledge-sharing activities, maintaining community resources, and assisting with capability-building initiatives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
