Assistant Portfolio Manager

Job Description

Assistant Portfolio Manager, UK Investment Operations

About IG

IG is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses. The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.

Join the Game-Changers

Our UK Investment Operations team is responsible for running, controlling and improving the investment services IG offers. As an Assistant Portfolio Manager, you will help run IG Smart Portfolios, our managed portfolio service for UK investors, delivered in partnership with BlackRock. We are also growing the range beyond our current risk profiles into thematic investing, and you will be involved in building that out.

This is a hands-on investment operations role. You will support the day-to-day management of our model portfolios across our range of risk profiles, own the monthly risk, attribution and performance reporting cycle, and act as the investment point of contact for client queries escalated from our client-facing teams. You will also write the monthly investment commentary and produce material that goes directly to our clients.

The role is broad. You will work closely with teams across IG, including client experience, asset servicing, technology, product, marketing and compliance, as well as with third-party providers.

What You'll Be Doing

Portfolio Management and Operations

  • Supporting day-to-day management of the model portfolios across risk profiles, ensuring each stays aligned to its mandate, target risk band and strategic asset allocation
  • Running portfolio rebalancing operations to a high standard of accuracy and control
  • Contributing to ETF selection and ongoing due diligence

Client Experience and Operational Support

  • Acting as the investment subject matter expert for our client experience teams, supporting queries across Smart Portfolios, share dealing and incentives
  • Working with asset servicing and technology teams so that system changes are specified, built and tested correctly, with no regressions to portfolio or trading workflows

Risk, Attribution and Performance Reporting

  • Maintaining and developing our portfolio risk and volatility models, including the covariance matrix, ex ante volatility and risk decomposition across asset classes and risk profiles
  • Producing performance attribution, breaking down returns by asset class, building block and allocation decision
  • Owning the monthly reporting cycle and delivering accurate, timely analytics to internal stakeholders and governance forums
  • Improving our reporting frameworks and analytical tooling to make them more accurate and more efficient

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

From the Team

"Investment Operations is a fantastic place to build real investment expertise, because you sit at the centre of how the portfolios actually run and you work closely with many different teams across the world. It is exciting to be directly involved in growing our investment services and improving the way they are delivered to clients."

How We Work

We think like a start-up, but we deliver like a FTSE 100 — so the bar is high, and we won't pretend otherwise. We work hybrid, which means three days in the office.

  • Own the ambiguity: You'll work through it without a playbook, and get real ownership over how you solve it — excellence isn't optional here, it's the standard you hold yourself to.
  • Question everything: Curiosity is our currency — question what exists, and you'll have the platform to define what comes next.
  • Deliver at pace: The pace is real, but so is the momentum: deliver at speed, unpick hard problems, and help define the future of fintech.
  • Raise the bar: Take your craft seriously, and you'll be surrounded by people who take theirs just as seriously — that's the legacy you're building on, and adding to.

We believe that diversity is vital to success, it fuels creativity, drives innovation and sets us up for global success. We're committed to building teams with a variety of perspectives and skills to help us realise our vision and strategy, that's why we encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences to join us on this journey.
