The Role

We are seeking a motivated Band 4 Assistant Practitioner with a specialist interest in older adult assessment and rehabilitation to join the Allied Health Professional (AHP) team within the Older People’s Service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI). The successful candidate will work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Healthcare Support Workers, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to older adults with complex health needs.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Permanent Role - 29 Hours Per Week
  • Location: Glasgow Royal Infirmary
  • Working Pattern: 5 Days over 7

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of early assessment, rehabilitation, treatment, and discharge planning for older adults with a range of co-morbidities.
  • Work within delegated competencies and under the guidance of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.
  • Independently manage a delegated caseload from assessment through to discharge.
  • Contribute to hospital flow and timely patient discharges.
  • Deliver clinical interventions, monitor patient progress, make onward referrals to community services, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Undertake a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks.
  • Support service development initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care within agreed competency frameworks.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required

  • Previous experience working as a Healthcare Support Worker within Physiotherapy and/or Occupational Therapy services.
  • HNC, SVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in Health & Social Care, Clinical Support, or Occupational Therapy Support.
  • SVQ Level 2/3 training or willingness to undertake relevant training and competency development.
  • Experience supporting rehabilitation and assessment of older adults.
  • Understanding of the roles of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists within acute services.
  • Ability to work independently within delegated treatment plans and agreed competencies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Accurate observation, assessment, and reporting skills.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to deliver delegated interventions safely and effectively.
  • Understanding of professional conduct, confidentiality, and person-centred care.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures, risk assessment, and risk management.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Flexible approach to working patterns and service demands.
  • Self-awareness and ability to work within professional boundaries.
  • Current UK driving licence and willingness to drive for service purposes.
